Doreen Ketchens is the leader of the group called Doreen's Jazz New Orleans. Their reason for having a band is to spread the culture and the traditional music of New Orleans all over the world. This is what music should be all about. Doreen has a special way to express emotions in her music which touches the hearts of her fans. She is called many things such as "Clarinet Queen", "The female Louis Armstrong", and “Lady Louie”. She has performed with many other jazz players. Ellis Marsalis, Jon Faddis, Trombone Shorty, Al Hirt, Dorothy Donegan, The Black Crowes, and Jennifer Warnes are only a few of the numerous talented musicians she has been able to perform with.
Her musical group as well as her passion originated in New Orleans. It all began when she noticed all these talented people playing on the streets. There was a lot of culture in Doreen’s home so she already the talent of performing but she never thought about bringing it out into the world. Seeing how people tried to accomplish their dreams made Doreen want to share her talent so she decided to start playing in the streets

She invests her time to teach young children and adults all about the traditions of jazz in New Orleans. Just like every musician Doreen had to work very hard to get to where she is now. In an Interview she was asked about how did she become such an inspiring clarinetist and her exact words were “by listening to Lawrence tell me how good I wasn’t but could be. I Applied what I knew to what I was trying to learn and there you have it. I think what people like so much is the fluency. Stanley always stressed the importance of every note no matter how short. I think of that always. He is proud of me and that makes me work even harder. “ The people around her and her strive to become better is what made her the artist she is today. There's always space to become better it just depends on how much you want
