Doras Luimni
Introduction
Doras Luimni was founded by a small group of dedicated volunteers in the year 2000, in response to the establishment of “Direct Provision” system by the Irish Government, which dispersed asylum seekers to accommodation centres in Limerick and around the country. The name Doras was chosen to symbolise an open door welcoming new communities to Limerick and as an acronym for Development Organisation for Refugees and Asylum Seekers. (Doras Luimni, n/a)

Assistance and advocacy for clients applying for refugee status.
Safe House: Secured in May 2012 and in a secure rural location within reasonable driving distance from the city. Women are referred to temporary safe accommodation via Doras Luimní staff. This is used in emergency situations only. Other service providers, such as voluntary housing associations or domestic abuse services are more commonly used.
Accompaniment: GP’s; Hospitals; counselling services; police interviews; court appearances; social welfare office; community welfare officer; prison in-reach.
Liaise with GNIB: Document client’s case and submit in report to GNIB (Garda National Immigration Bureau). Do follow up with client and guards. Where possible, we accompany clients to Garda interviews in relation to their trafficking cases.
After Care: Doras provides on-going support and advocacy once people have left Direct Provision centres. Support available includes liaison with GNIB so residence permits are issued on time; help with moving house or accessing social welfare; support to access educational
