Sometimes new leadership is found in the most unexpected places. In unanticipated or unexpected situations, new leaders can, and will, rise to meet and satisfy the demands of the organization – and this was exactly the case with Midwestern State University and Dr. Dora Cartwright. While new leadership can bring forth new and refreshing ideas to organizations, it can also complicate matters and paralyze organizations if the transition to new leadership is not effectively enacted and well-received. Therefore, this case study will ultimately outline the transitional process of Dr. Dora Cartwright, the unforeseen first female president of Midwestern State University, to the university’s top position. To overcome a variety of organizational obstacles, Dr. Dora Cartwright has decided to launch a ninety-day data collection initiative to help her prepare an effective …show more content…

Dora Cartwright will effectively lead as the first female president of Midwestern State University as long as she regularly and appropriately communicates with everyone and provides updates about her strategic plan. As the university’s first president, she will be in the spotlight and her actions will undoubtedly be closely monitored. Therefore, she must connect with various groups of the university to establish a greater perspective to develop a plan for the university that will transform Midwestern State University from a university with a poor financial status to one that empowers students and becomes a beacon in higher education. In short, as long as Dr. Dora Cartwright follows through with her ninety-day data collection process and effectively implements its findings, Dr. Dora Cartwright will be an inspirational and university-changing
