Dopamine
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that sends messages from the brain and different nerve cells in the body. Dopamine is considered a chemical that is produced in three different areas of the brain. The areas of the brain that are affected by Dopamine are the hypothalamus, substantia nigra pars compacta and ventral tegmental area. Dopamine is linked to movement, memory, attention, inhibition of prolactin production, learning, sleep, mood, pleasurable reward, behavior, pain processing and cognition in the body.
Symptoms of dopamine deficiencies are lack of motivation, fatigue, procrastination, inability to feel pleasure, low libido, sleep problems, mood swings, hopelessness, memory loss and the inability to concentrate. There are several foods you can eat to increase dopamine naturally, they are all animal products, almonds, apples, avocado, bananas, beets, chocolate, coffee, fava beans, green leafy vegetables, green tea, lima beans, oatmeal, sesame and pumpkin seeds, turmeric, watermelon, yogurt, kefir, raw

Low Dopamine has been linked to people with Parkinson’s Disease, ADHD, depression, drug addiction, anxiety disorders, autism, bipolar disorder, social withdrawal, memory loss, inability to write, posture issues, disorganization, speech issues, tremors, fibromyalgia chronic fatigue syndrome and mood disorders. It can also be the reason for nausea or if you’re feeling sick it could be, because you have low dopamine.
Medications prescribed for high dopamine are antipsychotics. Supplements can also be taken to increase serotonin which will offset the effects of the high dopamine. Recommended supplements would be Melatonin and St. John’s Wart. There are several different kinds of medication prescribed for low levels of dopamine.
