Doors Of Hope Mission Statement Analysis

Introduction One of the first steps of creating an agency is to develop a mission statement. Kirst-Ashman (2011) defined a mission statement as a statement about the overall purpose of an agency, as well as the services that will be provided and the client population(s) that will be served. These statements serve as a description of the goals of an agency and a description of what will be provided to the clients within the agency setting. Like many other agencies, Doors of Hope has composed their own mission statement. The mission statement from Doors of Hope (n.d.) states, “We assist and empower those struggling to build a new life after incarceration and beginning the new journey toward wholeness in recovery. We live life shoulder to shoulder …show more content…
To accomplish this goal, Doors of Hope has established two major programs. The first program is the LIFE skills program. This program consists of life skills training in which clients attend weekly courses. This program is held within the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, as well as the Rutherford County Work Center. While this is a big part of the Doors of Hope agency, the agency’s main contribution to their clients is the housing program. The housing program allows women who are overcoming substance abuse and/or rebuilding their lives after incarceration, to reside in one of two group home settings. In addition to providing housing, Doors of Hope also provides many other services to those in the housing program. Some of the other services include legal assistance, job skills training, counseling, mentoring, and medical/dental assistance. Doors of Hope also works to rebuild families for the women who reside in the …show more content…
One of the major groups of people affected by Doors of Hope is the family members of the clients in the housing program. The staff at Doors of Hope work with the family members of clients in an attempt to help rebuild relationships that have been shattered by addictions and incarceration. Doors of Hope also works with the children of clients to rebuild healthy relationships and work towards regaining custody, which has an impact on the caseworkers with the Department of Children’s Services. Doors of Hope also has a major impact on the law enforcement of Rutherford County. By providing the services that they do, Doors of Hope is working alongside the Rutherford County law enforcement to reduce recidivism within the county. Like all other agencies, Doors of Hope has a client population that they serve on a daily basis, however their services impact many other groups of people as

In 2001, Georgia and Arizona were the first states to approve peer support as a Medicaid billable service (Salzer, 2010). Since then a number of states have also begun to approve peer support as a Medicaid billable service. For instance, some states offer peer support under two Medicaid authorities: • Section 1905 (a) (13), which allows states to provide rehabilitative services in the Medicaid State Plan • Section 1915(b) (3), which allows states to use cost savings from a Freedom of Choice Waiver to provide additional services (Salzer, 2010; Eiken & Campbell, 2010).…

Therapeutic community (TC) is a generic term for residential, self-help, drug-free treatment programs that have some common characteristics, including concepts adopted from Alcoholics Anonymous (Abadinsky, H. (January, 2013). There is no specific data when it comes to the effectiveness of the programs offered at The Beacon House so it is hard to say just how effective the programs really are. However, the fact that the facility has been around for over twenty years must mean that there is at least a decent amount of success stories coming from it or they would have closed their doors by now. Many TCs release statistics that cannot withstand scrutiny by disinterested researchers. In a study of two TCs, researchers found that while participants who complete the programs showed positive treatment effects, a 50 percent drop-out rate may indicate that successful residents have unique characteristics, commitment to change, for example, that explain the results (Abadinsky, H. (January,…

One reason why we decided to work with the Dorothy Day House stems from us the importance of family dynamics and how parents want nothing more than to ensure their kids future. Another reason the Dorothy Day House caught our attention was that they house any type of family. Their families are diverse in make-up, size, age, religion and ethnicity but share the common bonds of poverty and homelessness (“Dorothy”). The Dorothy Day House does not criticize people when it comes to housing families, but rather look at what they can do to help. This foundational thinking comes from their Christian namesake, Dorothy Day, whose ideals we too admired.…

A number of challenges currently face the juvenile justice reform efforts. Therefore if my state governor appointed me to a task force to help reform juvenile justice, the ten issues I would identity in need of reformation would include, mental health, youth in child welfare, closing the loophole on status offenses, juvenile indigent defense, probation, keeping kids out of adult jails, addressing racial disparities, group homes and halfway houses, day treatment programs and wilderness probation programs. The issue with mental health in juvenile justice is that over two thirds of the youth involved with the juvenile justice system experience some form of mental health problems (Smith, 2017). Each year over 2 million youth come into contact…
