On page 11 it says that “ I ran as fast as I could leaving him far behind with a wall of rain dividing us. The narrator left doodle behind to die. The narrator could’ve ran back and carried doodle. On page 11 “I heard doodle who had fallen behind cry out don’t leave me!” The narrator intentionally left doodle behind even when doodle cried out for help. On page 5 doodle says “Don’t hurt me!” Doodle obviously doesn't want to get hurt so the narrator shouldn't be putting doodle through so much pain.
The narrator pushed doodle to hard and that is what caused his death. On page 5 “I grabbed him under his arms and stood up and doodle collapsed then doodle said Don’t hurt me!” Doodle doesn't want to stand up and he’s being pushed too hard but the narrator wasn’t doing it for doodle he just didn’t want to be embarrassed around people. The narrator was clearly seeing that doodle was tired so he brought him to the swamp and left him to die. The narrator also made doodle row against the tides so he would push himself so that he would
