The struggles before success is never a popular topic people like to explore. The life of Joanne Rowling before she wrote Harry Potter was a struggle from her education, to trying to find a job, and even to her marriages. Like many writers, Rowling did not expect fame and fortune. All Rowling wanted was the opportunity to share her creativity and have an out from her world of struggles. Little did she know that her escape from her life would one day become a beloved and inviting escape for millions of people just like her. Many of us just know her as the writer of your favorite novel series, but not many of us know what her life was like before. Without her having these struggles though we would have never had Harry Potter and we would have never known J.K. Rowling. In her early years, Rowling graduated from Wydean Comprehensive where she graduated with the highest honors she could. After graduating Rowling decided that she wanted to continue her education. It was then she decided that she wanted to apply to Oxford University. Even though she graduated with the highest honors, she was not …show more content…
Rowling’s first job was as a secretary. Rowling herself stated “I proved to be the worst secretary ever” (Chippendale 36). Coinciding with her distaste for her new job came her reluctance to perform well. Rowling was not very organized and was unable to stop her mind from wandering and keep her mind on her on her daily tasks. Rather than taking notes in meetings, she would write her story ideas in her notebook, and then she would later type them on her computer in lieu of doing her actual work (Chippendale 36). Deciding she was not meant to be a secretary, Rowling moved to Portugal in search of a new career. In September 1990, Rowling accepted a job teaching English.
