“Donald Trump has become the biggest- what seems like the only- political story in the country” (Continetti par.1). The billionaire, Donald Trump, known for Trump Towers and The Trump Organization, has decided to run for the presidency in 2016. Recently, he has been criticized for making harsh remarks about Mexico, women, and illegal immigration. Many people believe that Trump shouldn’t say whatever is on his mind. I believe that Donald Trump has the right to freedom of speech. It shows Americans what he thinks, if they want to vote for him or not, and public figures should have the right to freedom of speech. People are saying how Donald Trump doesn’t have the right to say this and that but he does. In the article “First Amendment: free speech” it says “The First Amendment of the Constitution provides that Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…” (First Amendment: free speech par.1). Freedom of speech was made for a reason, for all citizens, no matter who they are, to be able to express themselves. Since Trump is a public figure people care about what he has to say. Many celebrities keep to themselves. They don’t voice their opinions that often and when they do, they use their words carefully. Trump is used to telling others about how he feels about issues. Now with him running for presidency, he needs to say what he thinks. If he was limited by a certain choice of words on a script nobody would know how he really …show more content…
Trump has said so many comments that are hurtful it has offended and angered many people. Since Trump has been saying insulting and racist comments, people believe he shouldn’t say whatever is on his mind. Donald Trump was the host of Saturday Night Live on Nov. 7 and people like John Leguizamo couldn’t believe that NBC allowed Trump to host ‘SNL’. In the article “John Leguizamo is boycotting ‘SNL’ over Trump appearance” Robert Maclean quoted Leguizamo by saying “I won’t watch SNL anymore” (Maclean par.4). Leguizamo wants nothing to do with anything that is associated with Trump because of something Trump said that he didn’t agree with. Maclean goes on to say that “Leguizamo told Yahoo News that he found it hurtful and insulting that SNL and NBC would have Trump on the show” (Maclean par. 3).
