America has been leading from behind in the world for far too long. The instability throughout the world has increased at an ever-expanding rate in the last couple of years, and it does not seem to be slowing down. The inaction of America has contributed greatly to this instability by not forcefully deterring actions threatening peace. Adversaries have become emboldened to pursue their interests unabetted because of the lack of will on the part of the American Government to do something about it. Although some think Donald Trump’s foreign policy is not going to adequately handle the world’s conflicts, he is definitely going to bring peace into the world by his appointment of Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State, his cooperation with Russia, …show more content…
The One China policy that has held sway for the past eight years is coming to an end, and a new policy of confronting China head on is apparent, given the fact that Trump took an unprecedented call from Taiwan’s President. In an article published in the Wall Street Journal Online version titled “Donald Trump's Message Sparks Anger in China; President-elect's Taiwan call, tweets signal his approach will be more adversarial”, the author states that the, “U.S.-China experts said both Mr. Trump and Beijing appear to be trying to establish boundaries for a new relationship between the countries, which is expected to be more adversarial than that favored by President Barack Obama since 2009” (Paletta par. 8). A hard stance on China is needed at this crucial junction now that they are asserting themselves more aggressively to their neighbors through the buildup of artificial islands and nuclear bomber flybys, and specifically to America through the confiscation of U.S. Navy sea drones. Many would believe that confronting China will have the opposite effect of bringing peace to the world, but if the Chinese are consistently appeased, then there are no heights to which they will not go. However, America needs to be careful in the response given to provocations, making sure it is proportional in scope and effective in its effect. China has taken full advantage of American being non-confrontational, but the foreign policy of Trump will change
