Donald Trump's Debate Analysis

Decent Essays
One of the most uncommon debates was held on Thursday night, just four days before the Iowa caucuses: A republican debate without a front runner. Donald Trump did not attend the debate as he claimed that Fox News and the moderator Megyn Kelly treated him poorly. Instead, Donald Trump held his own event, raising money for veterans. That being said, seven rivals were left on stage, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, John Kasich and Rand Paul.

The six previous debates had been somewhat focused on Trump’s presence but considering he wasn’t there, the seven candidates present had the opportunity to speak for themselves in a Trump-free environment. Although, in Megyn Kelly’s first question to Ted Cruz, she asked about

Last night on the "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Texas Senator Ted Cruz stopped by to talk about the 2016 GOP presidential race, front-runner Donald Trump, and his family. Earlier in the show, Cruz did a sketch with "Donald Trump," played by Fallon of a phone conversation between him and Trump. In the sketch, Cruz gets a phone call from "Trump", who told his opponent he has been on the "'Tonight Show' many times" and to give him pointers before his appearance. Cruz said that it "was a very generous offer, and appreciate him for being a bigger man," in which Fallon mimicked the hand attack once used against Trump by a former rival Marco Rubio.…

In an interview, Donald John Trump, an American businessperson and a Republican candidate running for president, specified: “ The immigrants are bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, and they’re rapists. It’s coming from Mexico. It’s coming from the south and Latin America and it’s coming, probably, from the Middle East, but we don’t know because we have no protection.” As a result of the immigrants coming into America, Trump wants to create the immigration plan. If Trump’s plan is carried out, the Mexicans would be unauthorized to enter America because of the “great great wall,” possible recessions and riots would take place, and all illegal immigrants including the birthright citizens will be forced to leave America.…

I definitely agree with everything that James W. Ceaser stated in his writing. I do firmly believe that strengthened political parties would help our electoral process instead of having ruthless candidates “strengthened” by their organizations and here’s why. Before, candidates used to be chosen by members of the party; they would choose whoever was best fit to carry out the party’s platform the best. Since then, however, this idea has been long gone, which leads parties to have no direct influence over what candidate will be chosen. Political parties are no longer and identifier when people are asked who they are voting for or which side they are on. This is a very significant because it is one of the biggest issues of today’s election system, campaigns now are focused more than ever on candidates rather than the party platform.…

The night of October 4th was quite eventful at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. Both Senator Tim Kaine and Governor Mike Pence proved good points and represented their parties and their running mates very well. Elaine Quijando did not do a very good job as the moderator. This allowed the potential Vice Presidents to get a little out of hand a few times. Although the it did get out of hand a few times, they were very respectable for the most part.…

In the first Republican debate, the klieg light that Donald Trump always carries around with him revealed four or five presidential candidates who, under the right circumstances, could beat Hillary Clinton. The single most important event of the campaign so far was Trump raising his hand and refusing to commit to the eventual GOP nominee. Trump's actual performance in the debate demonstrated the real reason he will flame out.…

The second presidential debate was at the Washington University in St. Louis. The moderators for the debate were CNN’s Anderson Cooper and ABC’s Martha Raddatz. The debate was divided into six 15 minute segments, with topics about immigration, national security, health care and many more. In the beginning of the debate a member from the audience asked each candidate if “they feel that they are modeling appropriate and positive behavior for today’s youth, knowing that educators assign viewing the presidential debates as student’s homework?” Each candidate completely ignored the question and went off topic.…

It was 8pm October 13th, the night of the first Democratic debate to be moderated by Anderson Cooper. The excitement was boiling over to see what policies the left wing had to offer America. I watched the first two Republican debates and heard nothing of any substance for moving the country forward, basically no plans or policies were ever discussed. I will admit, both of the GOP’s debates were extremely entertaining with the plethora of personal attacks that were exchanged. The independent that I am requires information from the left and the right prior to being able to make well informed vote in next year’s elections.…

In this assignment I will attempt to unpack Donald Trump’s logic in the tweet above. Explicitly, Trump’s tweet in its current arrangement appears to be a disjunctive/hypothetical syllogism hybrid: P1: We, as a country, either have borders or we don 't. C : If we don 't have borders, we don 't have a country. Being charitable and filling in implicit premises, Trump’s argument takes on the following format: P1: All countries have borders P2:…
