Donald Trump's Arguments Against Abortion

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday prohibiting nongovernmental agencies abroad which receive U.S. funding from promoting abortion or discussing it as an option in family planning.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is already prohibited from providing U.S. funds to provide abortions in any country. However, this policy would freeze U.S. funding from the organizations that advocate for abortion rights or promote it as a family planning option, even if those organizations do not use US funds for those specific purposes.

Called the ‘Mexico City Policy,’ the policy was first introduced and enforced during former President Ronald Reagan’s presidency, after which subsequent presidents have enacted executive

Critics of the policy argue that it puts women in developing countries more at risk of unplanned pregnancies and that it would cause more abortions.

“Attempts to stop abortion through restrictive laws — or by withholding family planning aid — will never work, because they do not eliminate women’s need for abortion,” Marjorie Newman-Williams, the vice president and director of international operations at Marie Stopes International, was quoted by CNN as saying. “This policy only exacerbates the already significant challenge of ensuring that people in the developing world who want to time and space their children can obtain the contraception they need to do so.”

Meanwhile, President Trump has had changing views on abortion over the years, but has expressed a largely pro-life stance during his election campaign. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said during the first daily press briefing that Trump “wants to stand up for all Americans, including the unborn,” and added that “the reinstatement of this policy is not just something that echoes that value, but respects taxpayer funding as well.”

“President Trump’s immediate action to promote respect for all human life, including vulnerable unborn children abroad, as well as conscience rights, sends a strong signal about his administration’s pro-life priorities,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony

According to Clinical Digest the findings in a study done by the world health organization “…suggest that restrictive abortion laws do not prevent women from obtaining abortions, they merely increase the reliance on unsafe abortion” (Clinical Digest 14). Therefore, these restrictive laws are practically promoting illegal abortions, as many women are unable or cannot afford to go through the long and complicated process to get an abortion by an actually certified doctor. Additionally, many of these unsafe or illegal abortions can cause horrific damage to the women often times taking away their fertility. In addition, because these types of abortions are often under the table the government cannot tax the money spent on them. Thus, these restrictive laws are not only restricting the access to abortions, but also harming women and society as…

“With the laws in Texas most women in rural areas no longer have access to affordable birth control because most of the clinics lost funding or were shut down by other laws that were aimed at them. Not all of them were Planned Parenthood, but many of them were. As a result the birth rate has gone significantly up in the past year. And with it Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program spending for the state has also increased,” she said. “There are only five clinics now in Texas that provide abortions and three of them are in San Antonio, so although I would hope women want to keep their babies, I am angry they potentially have to travel across the state to do so.…

The problem I have chosen to identify falls within the defunding of Planned Parenthood. Once again this issue has become a heated debate among the republican and democratic members of congress. The democrats in the senate as well as President Obama are being blamed for any government shutdown that may occur due to their persistence in protecting the services provided and the funding allocated by the federal government that is legal as well as ethical. Planned Parenthood has been a financial supporter of Obama’s presidential campaign in the past, which republicans say proves that some type of corruption is now taking place between the two entities. The major accusation that Planned Parenthood has been accused of is profiting from the sale of aborted fetal tissue and by promoting this practice, increases the number of abortions that are being performed without offering any other type of solution to the unwanted pregnancy.…

Human reproduction is a general product of love and affection. Every infant has a right to life and by all means should be given an opportunity to grow. Reproduction and birth controls should, therefore, concentrate on pre-conception measures and not after conception measures such as abortion. It is not only unjust but also illegal as it is a form of murder. For such kind of actions to receive unprecedented support from Planned Parenthood is a major drawback to our society and must be rejected at all costs.…

One reason abortion is a social issue is because people don’t know whether it should be either illegalized or legalized everywhere. Tom Anderson says,” if abortions become illegalized then it will have a significant impact on women and would cause society to become like the third world. ”(Anderson,3) Which he describes as a place where the population suffers from poverty, malnutrition, treatable disease, poor health care, unemployment and lastly a place where women feel little empowerment concerning their reproductive lives.
