Great job with your discussion. We both had similar ideas when it came to the strength and weaknesses of Donald Trump’s campaign. First, one strength we both identified is campaign financing. Han and Heith make the statement that wealthy candidates have advantages over challengers, since they can spend lavishly on their campaigns without wasting precious campaign time on fundraising, which is crucial to keep campaign momentum going. Trump did not have to focus on fundraising cost, like Hillary Clinton did. This gave him the advantage to focus his time and effort on other campaign strategies, such as holding rallies. At many points during the campaign Donald Trump was asked to release his tax return and declined each time. For many undecided voters this was an issue, as we all want our future President to be honest and to feel that we can trust them, but not releasing his taxes for many felt like he was hiding something. We both agreed that one of Donald Trump’s weaknesses was his debating skills. In the first, debate he often failed to focus on the issues but attempted to backlash at Hillary Clinton. It showed how temperamental he was and according to Han and Heith, a presidential debate for many voters is a defining candidate for each candidate. Even the camera angle, candidates clothing can spark an opinion and be a deciding factor for whom a person votes for. A strength that I thought was interesting is how the news media gave Trump the advantage over Clinton. The news media often looks for the most entertaining story, in hopes of increasing views.
