Assuming that Americans believe that the U.S is the most exceptional country, Trump appeals to his audience’s emotions when he sets out to enrage the audience by suggesting that President Barack Obama, weakened the once-strong foreign policy, thereby causing America to lose its high rank. In fact, after attempting to establish his credibility by promising that he has American’s best interest at heart, Trump, confident from recently winning the primaries, recounts a number of the country’s current, liberal president’s missteps, only to logically follow them by reassuring those listening that when elected president, Trump will make America strong again. From the start, Trump tries to seem likable and credible when he claims that he would reconstruct the U.S foreign policy to please Americans. Aiming to appear humble at the top of his speech, for example, Donald Trump “thank[s][his audience] for the opportunity to speak to [them]. Then, establishing that he would put “America first”, Trump implies that he must truly care about Americans since for him, their “interests… and… security [comes before] all else”. …show more content…
Addressing the “weakened economy” that Obama caused, for example, Trump claims that he will “end the theft of American jobs” to fix this. He even pledges to make America “strong again” in response to the rivalries disregarding the U.S. By announcing both claims, Trump gives the audience hope that he can fix the foreign policy even though he doesn’t explicitly tell how he will accomplish this

Since 1969, America has seen an extensive range of presidents in terms of style, personality, rhetoric and overall demeanor towards the American people. A good deal of these qualities overlap in candidates who have won the election. While these stances have been pitched differently over the years, they all share the same basic ethos; reassurance. It seems that the American electorate respond best to candidates who continually reassure the American people of the inevitability of America thriving under that particular leader’s guidance.…
