The oppression was supported by scientist, medical experts and the church. The differences in sexes were used as a primary way of signifying relationships of power and women were feared in the sense that if a woman had the potential to take and hold power, then men and those in power would lose control. I can see men like Donald Trump fearing women like Hillary Clinton, and his vulgar behavior is a manifestation of that fear, similar to the bully who picks on a little kid to make himself feel bigger than he really is. Donald Trump’s competitor, Hillary Clinton, is a woman and this places her in a group that experiences oppression and has often been left out of consideration for roles that include leadership and power. Trump is a white man who has been well off or “privileged” his entire life and very likely does not know what it means to be discriminated against and probably struggles to understand the feeling of helplessness. Although Hillary is flawed, it seemed that Trump’s list of flaws went on forever and that there was not a shot this man could become the next leader of the free world. It seems to me that through history, the position of women really hasn’t changed as much as some people think. The election process in the United States resulted in the decision to elect a leader that dignifies oppression when we had the chance to change history. The recent actions of Trump and the election and the idea of woman being president of the United States was so empowering and could have led towards real progress for so many people, but this dream was ripped away by our own
