“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on," a campaign press release said tuesday December 8, 1015. Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has been very adamant in trying to stop terrorism, just in a racist way. Many are common with the stereotype that terrorists are muslims, but with recent terrorist attacks happening in Paris and San Bernardino, the racial profiling of muslims has never been higher. The media has not been reluctant to capitalize on america's racist fears by subtly encouraging innocent americans to stereotype others. The media convinces the world of stereotypes in a very simple way. Human beings are extremely impressionable people. It only takes a few words by a “credible” source to completely change the minds of some. In a recent poll done by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News, it was found that 47% of Americans believe that the country is less safe from terrorism now than before 9/11. Brian Kilmeade, Fox News personality, uttered the words “not all Muslims are terrorists, but all Muslims are terrorists” in a 2010 broadcast of Fox News in order to capitalize on the growing fear of terrorism. With millions of Americans terrified of the possibility of a terrorist attack, having news agencies like Fox News tell them that Muslims are terrorists encourages them to be wary of any Muslim they see in order to protect themselves and their families. This “evidence” that the media is spurting out about how brown people are terrorists is completely non fact based as well. In an FBI study on terrorist attacks committed in the United States between 1980 and 2005 found that 94 percent of terrorist attacks were committed by non-muslims. Many Americans do not know this however, because the media did not make these issues a massive problem in the US. One could claim that they have never heard the media calling someone who attacks abortion clinics in the name of Christianity a “Christian terrorist”. As we are a predominantly Christian country, it looks bad for the news organization to claim that the enemy is one of us. Stating this could cause something as drastic as the viewer changing the channel, and in the media world, that is simply not acceptable. The media is capitalizing on Americans’ fears by insinuating stereotypes in order to pursue their own agenda of garnering views.
