Spry has been in private practice since 1969 and has been the attorney for Bangor School Board since 1976. Spry does 70% of his practice in family law and 30% with the school board.

Spry recalled the night of the election for the school board director in August 2015. Before the election was held Spry told the board that the first person to receive five votes would be elected to the board. Spry thought there were six candidates nominated and Ron Angle was the first nomination to be voted
