In today’s society, you can go almost anywhere and still find that someone is still getting bullied for the way they look, how they act, or what they wear. However no one knows deep down what that person has felt or suffered through. No one knows the pain, struggles, and obstacles that person may have overcome to become half the person they are today. Nobody has the right to judge another human being for the way they are because in the end it won’t matter. In Mark Willis’ song “Don’t laugh at me don’t call me names” he goes through the many cases of where somebody is being judged, laughed at, or hurt. The message of his song is to show the listeners examples of how people are being bullied or put down with hurtful words and how it affects them.
I believe this song speaks out to not only the victims of bullying but also the one’s doing it. Mark was trying to give an insight to everybody as to what these people go through on a daily basis. Mark Willis says multiple times in the song “Don’t get your pleasure from my pain”, meaning so many people put others down just to make their selves feel better. Willis gives an example of young children who are being bullied because of a stage they’re going through in life. He sings “I’m a little boy with glasses, the one they call a geek, a little girl who never smiles ‘Cause I’ve got braces on my teeth and I know what it’s like to cry myself to sleep.” His statement using these two examples are very true and it makes no sense for…
