With the use of characterization, the author reveals the importance of acknowledging the motive behind one’s action. A man with the name of Don Trine gives off a dark and suspicious aura as he wanders through the grove alone. Due to curiosity, the town boys decide to follow behind him, but were left clueless once they saw Don sticking his arm inside of a hole. They started to believe Don’s insanity was real without knowing his intentions for his actions. However looking deeply into his life, one can infer how lonely it was as “...an old bachelor.
