There was something about dating a filmmaker that put her at ease. It was hard for Terrence to take his video camera out whenever he wanted. It was kept locked up in his apartment and only used when he was working. A few times she went along on the shoots and behind the camera she felt protected. She thought of Ryan—how he told her to feel honored. Except the real honor, she discovered, was being a curator. Looking. Judging. Choosing. Once, Terrance even asked her opinion during a shoot. Except she stood there naked, turned to the side, lifted her arms up and studied her body. Dread pinched at her toes. She was getting married. It meant sharing the parts that were meant to be a secret. To avoid the thought, she reached for the wedding dress and climbed inside. It hid her body. Maybe, she thought, it was protection. Ula floated down the aisle of the church and scanned the pews for the people she knew. When she looked towards the front, she saw a younger man holding a video camera. Kissing Terrance moments later felt like kissing a stranger. Why had he hired a videographer when she specifically asked him not to? But she relaxed, let him taste her in front of all the guests, in front of the priest whom she felt smiling down at them and the camera, which had moved closer. After the ceremony she found the young man in the hallway of the church, holding his camera like an infant. She took his hand and led him into the ladies room Once inside, they faced each other and the boy looked confused without the camera blocking his expressions. What? he asked
