Don T Run Short Story

Don’t Run. Don’t move. Don’t even breathe.

It’s what Dean taught you to do if you were ever trapped with a monster. In a locked building, or underground, anywhere that you might be that you couldn’t get out of.

“Don’t run, just hide. Sammy and I, we’ll come find you. If you run you’ll make noise, or you could fall, l something could get knocked over and give away exactly where you are. You're better off hiding until you know you’ve got the upper hand.” Dean had given you the same lecture at least a hundred times, you could hear his words echoing in your head as you slowed your breathing down so much you weren't even sure how your brain was getting enough oxygen.

You were taking every word Dean had taught you and applying it as you hid

It had been weeks since Dean was cured and still you had the same dream every night, well it’s less of a dream more of a nightmare, even then it wasn’t really a nightmare just a memory.

Pulling your hands away from your chest you wiped the sweat from your face and reached over to check the time on your phone. 3:28 am, “no point in trying to get back to sleep now.” you sighed and reached for your water bottle that you kept on the night stand next to your bed, as you went to take a sip you realized it was empty.

You grabbed your phone and the water bottle and slowly slipped out of bed, this early in the morning both of your brothers should still be sleeping. As your bare feet padded against the cold concrete floors of the bunker memories started to come back to you again, since that night you hadn't really spoken to Dean, and you won’t be alone with him. You and Sam can both see how much it’s killing him that you’re still afraid, but every time you see him you just start to think about his eyes that night, and how they look exactly the same

“Y/n please look at me, I miss you bug. I’m so sorry for what happened, you know I would never.” Dean was begging, he wanted his little sister back but he knew he couldn’t push it, you’d come around when you were ready. At least that’s what sam keeps saying.

“Dean, please stop.” your voice was shaking, but you had more to say “I want us to be normal again Dean, more than anything in the world. I want my big brother, but-” Your hands subconsciously moved to cover the scar on your stomach, Cas had healed it which is the only reason you’re alive, but there was a scar. Dean noticed your hands move and more guilt filled his body. “I’m so sorry sweetheart, I hurt you and I’m so sorry for that.”

“I know you are Dean I really do, but everytime I close my eyes it’s like I’m reliving that night again and again. Dean, I dreamed of you, and I had to sleep with the lights on.” This broke Dean’s heart because he had the exact same dream, but in his version he wasn’t the victim. And it hurt him just as much as it hurt

OF MICE AND MEN Of Mice and Men is a novella, written by John Steinbeck, following two displaced workers; George Milton and Lennie Small who seek opportunities during The Great Depression. Steinbeck uses a variety of conventions, language and stylistic features throughout Of Mice and Men to convey an array of ideas. These techniques are evident when conveying the element of inevitability in regards to the dream. Powerlessness, conveyed by characterisation, the lack of knowledge and impairment of characters. As well as the importance of the dream, creating empathy by influencing the reader.…
