Ways for parents to be more involved Many parents feel, if they involve themselves into the student’s academics, the student will be successful. The article “Don’t Help Your Kids with Their Homework” by Dana Goldstein is about parents' involvement in students' academics. The argument of the article is how parents can help students by making sure they have good materials but other things are not effective, like helping with homework, sitting in on classes, and going to parent teacher meetings. The article is wrong that parent involvement is wrong because they should be engaged in their child’s learning process and what is going on around the child’s campus. Parental involvement helps the students to be better members of the classroom so the teacher does not have to act as a parental figure. According to Child Trends, “students with parents who are involved in their school tend to have fewer behavior problems and better academic performance, and are more likely to complete high school.” According to the U.S. Department of Education, “parents should be more involved in education so they can help communicate with the children and school staff.” When parents reach out to teachers and try to help them, teachers have less of a burden placed on them. The teacher will see that the parent is involved and is willing to help the student better him/herself.
