The use of figurative language has achieved the creation of a picture in the reader's mind for the children's act. Alliteration has been used in work through the use of words such as "fast food, labeling laws, drive down, care cost" among others to bring the same sound beginning each word in the statements. The author has made brilliant use of analogy using him as an example earlier in life and the reforms that he made in life after he interacted with the health magazine at the navy reserves. He had the same characters as the fat children but later changed his eating habits which in turn changed his fat content. The other literary device used is the antithesis where the author uses the fast food industry and the tobacco industry to bring out the devastating effect that the society well faces when the necessary safety percussions are not taken into considerations. Antithesis also is used to bring the vivid picture of yet another fact that the government will experience as the fast food companies continue to advertise their products using vast amounts of money. The author foresees the possible problem the state will face with the increased advertisements by the corporations to the children.
