Don T Be Salty Research Paper

Motivational Speech Written Component: Don’t Be Salty The term “salty” has come to be commonly used among high school children because of its prevalence in everyday life. I picked this topic because of its effect on people’s relationships and happiness. People that are considered “salty” are either defensive or they cannot let go of past events. While they are talking Holden comes out with “Did you ever get fed up” (Salinger 144-147). He then proceeds to go on a huge word vomit talking about how useless school is and all the phonies that schools have. Polonius tells his son to “Give every man thy ear, but few thy mouth” (Hamlet 1.3.74). Holden’s date with Sally can help translate Polonius’ advice into: do not over share your thoughts. Holden intentionally makes rude remarks and jokes to innocent people because he is angry with himself. His absence of enthusiastic control is an excellent sign of a childish character. He is also defined as being immature throughout the novel. Some examples of his immaturity are, “What’re are you majoring in? Perverts?”…

Enforced by the Clinton Administration from 1993 to 2011, the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” (DADT) law barred thousands of military members from expressing their sexual identity if they identified with any sexual orientation other than ‘straight’. It forced thousands of military members “under a cloud of anxiety and isolation,” essentially weakening military unit cohesion because of individual secrecy. “As a matter of national security, civil service, and fiscal responsibility,’ the repeal of the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy was essential for positive efficacy of the military. With organization, quantitative and anecdotal studies in favor of the repeal, and being in the midst of war, the Obama administration was able to gather enough credibility…

Holden Caulfield conveniently mocks others on the way they act and speak, the facts are stated on how Holden has more effortless conversations with teachers as he describes "You don't have to think to too hard when you talk to a teacher"(Salinger 13). Holden is holding back because he thinks that everyone are phonies and ingenuine with their words and this passage could not describe Holden’s fear of being lied to, especially by a phony. Another example that clues the reader in about Holden’s psyche is the amount of guilt that he carries around daily. He’s constantly putting himself down and saying how he does not deserve some of the things that he gets. An example of this is the pair of ice skates his mother gifted him. “One thing about packing depressed me a little.…

There are many types of religions in the world, all in which different cultures believe in. It is one thing to be raised and taught to believe in a “God” but it is an other thing when that “God” is proven real. Many people believe in a “higher power” but do not want to classify that “higher power” so that it does not change their lifestyle or their behaviour. Humans like to be comfortable in their own skin, with their own beliefs, therefore, they will try and convince themselves in what they believe is real for their own comfort. In that case, couldn 't that be very scary if they are wrong?…
