A character foil is when a character contrast with another character to highlight their particular qualities. The book Much Ado About Nothing takes place in Messina ,Italy. Much Ado About Nothing is a story when a few soldier's return from battle and everyone is jocund. Don Pedro makes Hero and Claudio get married, but Don John( Antagonist) spreads a rumor to have fun and cause a ruckus. In “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare, Don Pedro is a character foil to Don John because of their difference of their actions, dialogue, personality.
In Much Ado About Nothing Don John shows a character foil to Don Pedro by dialogue. Shakespeare stated “ I heard him swear his affection”( Page 23, This was when Don John told Claudio that Don Pedro is in love with Hero). Don John wants to cause brouhaha through rumors by telling other character like in this scenario Claudio spurious news. Also Don John wants to break relationships to cause a big mess.
