Domestic violence is a worldwide public health issue that results in negative consequences for the victim and the community. Over 35% of women worldwide have been or are currently victims of domestic violence (Wandera 1). The Public Health Organization defines it as “the range of sexually, psychologically and physically coercive acts used against adult and adolescent women by current or former male intimate partners” (Kaye 626). Although women are more often victims, and men perpetrators, domestic violence is not limited to those specific gender roles (Kaye 629). Uganda, specifically, is a country with high domestic violence rates. 55% of married women have experienced at least one form of domestic violence from their husbands. (Wandera 1)
