Domestic Violence Scenarios

First situation that comes to mind is dealing with a client that experienced domestic violence, which was one of the scenarios that the counselors in the videos talked about. The reason I believe that this could be a challenging issue because I am a child that grew up with domestic violence in my home. Though I know that working with clients that have had to deal with or actually still in a situation like this, is a common issue unfortunately, I know I need to be there for the patient. So I think that saying you won’t put your values and beliefs I the session is nearly impossible.     As a survivor of intimate partner violence, I prefer the use of the term survivor over victim. The term victim carries a very negative connotation that I feel draws sympathy rather than support. A survivor has overcome a difficult situation and has walked away with strength.
