Domestic Violence Research Paper

Have you or anyone that you may know ever been through any type of domestic violence? Because believe it or not domestic violence can happen to anyone no matter their economic state, race, age, religion and even gender. Domestic violence can occur in many different types of forms for example: sexual, physical, emotional, economic and psychological abuse. “Domestic violence is one of those gender related violations that has had a long past but a short history.” (Pg.1) Domestic violence has been viewed as a typical part of marriage; it’s an experience that women or men who have entered a marriage or are in an established relationship should expect, or tolerate. The men or the husband of the marriage had total control and women had no say in anything other than the house work. Women are more prone to be the victims of domestic violence than men are in a relationship. This occurs because men want to be in control and assure that he is the “alpha” in the house hold. The National Violence Against Women Survey indicates that 1 in every 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. (pg.1) Domestic violence occurs when a current or ex intimate partner uses dominance and total control in a relationship either through physical, sexual, or psychological-emotional abuse, resulting in physical or even emotional trauma to the victim. The victim is often financially dependent on her abuser, and other economic and family factors complicate the victim’s response to abuse. It complicates the victims’ response to abuse because they probably don’t want to get their kids or even family involved and make things worse. In some women it’s difficult to report they are being abused because of the fact that they are scared of how the abuser will respond, and if there are children involved in their marriage or relationship they wouldn’t want to harm their
