Domestic violence “contributes to poor health, high rates of depression, sleep disorders, anxiety flashbacks, and other emotional distress” (Statistics and Facts). Domestic violence is considered to be a mental rollercoaster. Rae Lamar Wiggins, known as Rae Carruth, is a former NFL Carolina Panthers wide receiver who is currently serving 24 years in prison. In 2001, Carruth hired two hit men to murder his then wife Cherica Adams, and unborn son Chancellor Lee Adams, because he did not want to pay child support. “In fact, before he arranged the killing of Cherica Adams, Carruth had another son he was refusing to support that when the mother of that son came to Carruth offering to cut the support in half if he would just call his son on special occasions. Carruth replied that she should not be surprised if she got into a fatal car accident” (Smith). Three weeks after Chancellor was born with cerebral palsy, Cherica died from the inflicted gunshot wounds. “At the age of 12, Chancellor can barely speak, is mostly confined to a wheelchair and cannot feed himself.
