We are both holding a child in our arms. Twins, newborns, beautiful. Swathed in blankets, gazing at us both with bright innocent eyes. One of these infants will be gazed upon with the utmost admiration. Loved by all. You will think of this child and think proud, you will think strong. The other child? The other child is a girl.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the speech on the very dangerous, very intimidating, topic of the f word. Feminism. To the boys, take your moment now to think not again, to the girls, feel free to come see me after and tell me to act like a lady.

However, intimate partner homicide increased by 20%. Each year 40,000 arrests are made by cause of domestic violence. However, only 22% of incidents are reported to the police.

There are 460,000 experiences of sexual assault reported by women per year. Only 10% of sexual assaults are reported to the police. Even more, 460,000 experiences, 1,500 convictions.

Then there's the men's assault. Seven percent of victims are male, a one in thirty three chance to be raped. But if you are raped, oh ho don't you admit it! Don't you dare seek for attention! Men are accused of being girly, weak when insulted. Men are told “it's not rape,” when the girl is their definition of hot, girls are told “it's not rape,” when the boy is their definition of hot, it's always the victim's fault.

The other day, I read about a raped woman with HIV. The man who attacked her is now HIV positive. The article focused on how she would have told him she was HIV positive, how she would have worn a special underwear or badge of sorts. It was her
