Domestic Violence is Trendy Domestic violence is a serious problem in the United States. In a journal on dating violence Jennifer Katz shares some statistics on types of domestic violence. “The three most common types of violence [in the U.S. are] being pushed, grabbed, or shoved (82%); slapped or hit (78%); or beaten up (44%)” (Katz, Jennifer 456.) This is a problem that seems to be getting significantly worse throughout the years. What is causing this exponential growth with this issue? There are many movements to fight the problem of domestic violence, yet there is always something that holds society back. The man 's facial expression is one of the most noticeable features of this advertisement. He appears to be smiling and proud due to his facial expression, not saddened by the corpse of a woman (“Domestic Abuse is the New Black (Shock Advertising)). The proud and happy face of the man can suggest to the viewer that he is not ashamed of this woman’s unfortunate demise. Due to the fact the woman is incapacitated and the inability to see her face because the man is holding the tie in such a way that prevents the viewer to see her completely. The viewer can infer that the man only wants the viewer to see the naked body and not the potentially beat up face of the woman. Another thing the viewer notices is the setting. It appears to be night time and this may be due to the pictures black and white quality but one can assume that it was at night. Night is presumed to be a promiscuous time and this is confirmed by the dress of the woman. The viewer also can assume that the woman was killed on the car due to the large puddle of blood surrounding the woman’s head.
