Domestic Violence In Today's Society

“The world suffers a lot not because of the violence of bad people, but because of the silence of good people” (Napoleon). Domestic violence has been a common issue in today’s society - an issue that has been overlooked and ignored by society and the victims. This violence can be defined as one person trying to dominate and take control over the other person in the household, typically through a violent or an aggressive way. The effects of domestic violence can include: emotional and psychological aspects, physical aspects, and can also have many effects towards the children of the victim. Due to this type of violence being silenced and ignored since time, many families are brought apart every year. Many people struggle in their own household by the effects of domestic violence and women and children are often the soft targets of this issue.The causes of domestic violence ranges from many different perspectives including drugs and alcohol, and also present and past ads and images that are used to show that women are inferior to men. In today’s modern world, the victims can be both men and women at all age ranges, ethnic backgrounds and economic levels.

When an individual is physically abused by the one he/she may love, it is devastating to witness the victim not receive their love back. “Around the world at least one woman in every three has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime. Some may disagree to a certain degree, but there can be many reasons as to why and how the children of the victim and abuser can be affected by domestic violence as well. School can play a huge, stressful role in a child’s life, and having to deal with his/her’s parents’ issues can result to a larger amount of stress. The child may not be able to concentrate and do well in classes, knowing that one of their parent may be abused. In addition, the child might not want to tell his/her friends and teachers about the issue that is happening at home, because he/she might be afraid about being judged. However, the main cause of domestic violence within men, are due to witnessing their own mother being beaten by their father in the past. The abusers feel that it is alright for them to abuse another individual because it has occurred in their family’s history. Unfortunately, when children become witnesses of domestic violence, they often grow up to believing that the situation is normal, just because their parents had done it and been through it. This can tremendously affect the child’s future, because he/she may be the abuser or victim in his/her own relationship as well. Also, when guidance may be needed, the child may not want to return back home because they know about the past relationship of their parents. Therefore, the future of the child
