Domestic violence is a dangerous experience for everyone who is involved. Domestic violence is when someone attempts to cause or cause bodily injury to a family or household member. Domestic violence affects more than the victim of the attack. It could also affect close family members, friends of the family, the police officer who arrived on the scene, the detective who is assigned to investigate the case, and the community that it took place in. Situations dealing with people who cannot think logically and base their actions off of feelings, can be very risky for any officer or others who attempts to intervene. Domestic violence is usually a private matter because it deals with family.

They investigate and report cases that involve domestic situation that falls within their certain criteria. The domestic abuse response team unit also work with the domestic violence intervention partnership program among other organizations that assist with domestic violence victims.
The domestic violence intervention partnership program ensure that victims of domestic violence receives services to aid in the restorative process. It is a well needed support system program that motivates and supervisor the rebuilding of the victim’s life after and during the process of receiving legal justice. Their services include rapid interventions, safety planning, legal support, and information on the arrest and court procedures.
In the movie, Slim did not seek anymore help from active law enforcement because of the information she received from the initial officer and her husband’s friends worked within the department. Situations as this deter other domestic victims from standing up and reporting their situations. In order for domestic violence to decrease, victims need to be ensured that there are people put in places to assist them in getting out. More officers need to take a better stand in assisting victims who report domestic violence.
