Introduction
According to Payne, (2009) Violence refers to pain or anger which makes someone to cause destruction. In his view, domestic violence occur at all family levels including: couples, parent child relationships and even in the dating relationships whereby the person/people involved in the violence use either physical, sexual or psychological means to attack the other party. Physical violence involve hitting pushing or biting the other person while psychological abuse is characterized by someone exposing the other person to stress, trauma or chronic depression due to insults within the family. Financial abuse and social abuse also contribute to domestic violence. (Kaur,2008). This discussion focuses on domestic violence among couples. In this discussion, I will be focusing on social conflict theory and culture of violence theory to help me in understanding this problem. Statistics from TeresiaOmondi, a program managing director at the Nairobi women hospital says that the number of victims have increased from 299 in2006 to 412 in 2007. She continues to state that the number stile continues to rise as the years go by. Political and social functions have contributed significantly to increase in domestic violence especially against women. for example high levels of domestic violence were experienced in 2008 post election violence.(Said et al 2008) .A study conducted by FIDA Kenya (2012) revealed that 1067 women attended antenatal clinics and emergency care at the Nairobi women hospital. That is 20%of women have reported being abused by the partners that they live with. Kenya police statistics suggests that cases of domestic violence have reduces by 10% in Nairobi between January and May this year compared to 2012.This is due to the fact that people have come out large numbers to report these
