The analysis of exposure to intimate partner violence is based on the FACS referral data. The researcher would have to go through all the data and code it to make sure each child that is selected for the study fell under exposure to the specific type of intimate partner violence defined earlier. The exposure would also be identified through interviews to assess exposure to family violence. The interview will have questions about what the child has seen and heard along with life events that the primary caregiver can discuss. If a child had a hard time answering a question response cards can be used. This process would like something like this; a response card showing no, one, two, three, or many squares will be presented with each item that was read to the children. They were told to indicate their response to the item by pointing to one of the five pictured options. This measure has been used in prior research studies that have established its reliability and validity (English, D.J., Marshall, D.B. & Stewart, A.J, 2003: 50). The referent period for the violence is ‘ever’. The parents would be asked to indicate if their child had witnessed a specific type of violent event in the last year (ex. “in the last year has your child witnessed your intimate partner choke you?”) These questions allow the researcher to gather data on the amount of exposure the children have …show more content…
Many of the studies I have looked at have used a Child Behaviour Check-List (CBCL) to look at child’s behaviour problems in a number of areas. This list has been proven by many studies to be reliable and valid. So the researcher could administer this check-list to the children’s teachers to get feedback on their behavioural patterns. Also, many other studies looked at whether or not there is a difference in boys and girls with respect to exposure and behaviour. There were no significant findings so I chose to not address gender in this study. To exclude any alternative explanations, the researcher should look at each variable
