Domestic Violence Effect

Domestic Violence is the leading cause of injury in the United States- more than car accidents, muggings, and rape combined. Domestic Violence is a serious problem for many people and is typically caused by self-entitlement, possible drug or alcohol use, and can have a serious effect on its victims.
Most domestic violence situations involve a man being violent with his spouse. The cause of their anger can come from the lack of respect they feel entitled to. Being the man of the house, they are the providers, and when he senses that his spouse is feeling ungrateful he gets upset. (“Anonymous”). Domestic violence tends to be a pattern of behavior used by one person in a relationship to control the other. The most frequently reported type of domestic violence is physical abuse such as hitting, punching, pushing, arm-twisting, biting, and use of a weapon. (“Gale”).
Domestic violence can occur while being under the influence. “The situations get worse when being under the influence, especially when we both are. Having a temper and being drunk and or high caused us to lash out towards each other and at times our children.” (Anonymous”). …show more content…
Domestic abuse may occur continuously or sporadically. However, domestic abuse usually becomes an established cycle of violence. The abusive episode is often followed by apologies, promises that things will get better, and even denial by the batterer that the abuse occurred. Loving behavior and gifts from the batterer may precede an even more severe episode of violence, and the cycle generally becomes shorter with each occurrence.
