What is domestic violence and why is it acceptable? Domestic violence by definition is violent or aggressive behavior within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner. There are many kinds of domestic violence including physical, verbal, and nonverbal, and sexual abuse. Stalking harassing, cyberstalking, financial, and spiritual abuse are also common types. According to the world health organization, domestic violence against women is a social and public health problem. A study was done around the world which surveyed women across many countries. Ten to sixty-nine percent reported being physically assaulted by a partner at one point in their life time. A 2002 study reported that in western parts of the world, one in four women have suffered from violence by a present or ex male partner. Domestic violence is more prevalent than most people realize because of the many forms it comes in and also because today’s society deems certain types acceptable. When you look at social media, the television, and music today, people and trends show that is not only normal but acceptable to be violent and harmful to others. The lack of consequences for certain people, especially if they are famous is a major factor. If those people can get away with it so can they. If they can do it without leaving proof, who will believe the victim? According to UNICEF it is a national and worldwide crisis where between 20 and 50 percent of the population will at some point…
