Every minute, 20 people are physically assaulted by an intimate partner in the United States, that 's over 10 million victims each year. Many are severely injured and others are even killed .Even though non-fatal incidents have declined 63 percent since 1994, over 4,000 women still die each year due to domestic violence. Domestic violence is a serious concern and with a lot of the the new celebrity domestic violence scandals occurring in the United States, hopefully it will help shine some light on some solutions we as Americans can do to make a difference for the victims of such incidents. Domestic Violence is defined as “a pattern of behaviors in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power over another intimate partner”, according to The United States Department of Justice, but honestly it is so much more than just that,to me domestic violence is the complete violation and hijacking of ones independence as far as being a human being. It 's taking someone who one is suppose to love and in some cases someone who one actually vowed to love and saying to them “ I own you” or “you do what I want you to do ” and just completely viewing them as property instead of an actual person and gradually over time breaking down their self esteem to where they no longer view themselves as a valuable human being, “In situations of captivity the perpetrator becomes the most powerful person in the life of the victim, and the psychology of the victim is shaped…
