“Current U.S. domestic violence prevention approaches are not adequate and in some ways we may be heading in the wrong direction” (Janet, 9). The way women get hurt from being involved in domestic violence is by physical abuse and mental abuse. Domestic violence against women is a serious problem in the U.S because 85% of women get hurt per year from being involved. Another serious reason is because it’s the third cause of homelessness and also because domestic violence cost more than $37 billion a year. Domestic violence needs to be stopped. We can cut down the instances of domestic violence by increasing funding for support services, we can also change the way family courts handle cases involving domestic violence, and help woman be economically independent. Domestic violence effects everyone like men, women of any ethic group, race, or religion; gay or straight; rich or poor; teen, adult, and elderly. Most of the victims or women 1 out of 4 women will be a victim at some point. Men abuses women because they want to feel in control of the relationship. The abuser may make violent threats against the victims children, family members, or pets. Domestic violence also includes sexual abuse like forcing their partner to have sex with them against their will.
Domestic violence against women causes homelessness because women do not know where to go, there is a lack of affordable homes, and long waiting lists for apartments. Women that are involved in domestic violence also…
