Domestic violence isn’t just hitting, fighting or having an argument; it is a violent confrontation between family or household members involving physical harm, sexual assault, or fear of physical harm. Household members includes: spouses, dating relationship, adults related by blood or marriage and between parents and child. It refers to a situation when two people in a close relation cannot peacefully live together and have fights. Domestic violence is a serious critical issue that happens every day and everywhere around the world between families and household members. Domestic violence happens when the person committing it has trouble controlling whatever they are doing, they lose control. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. On an ordinary day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide. Domestic violence isn’t only physical and sexual violence, but also psychological. It means intense and repetitive degradation and controlling the actions or behaviors of the victim through intimidation like bullying or manipulation by using tricks on them. There are no specific people that are bound to suffer from domestic violence, it happens in all types of families. It can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, and race.
