Domestic Violence is a major issue in today 's rapidly changing society. Domestic Violence falls under the banner of Family law, which controls acts to do with family and marriage. This presentation will help to develop a clearer understanding of Domestic Violence and make evaluations and recommendations in determining the changes of the law necessary in today 's society.
Domestic Violence in Queensland, is described explicitly by the Family Law code as: One person in a relationship controlling the other sexually, physically, economically and/or socially in a relationship. Partners may be married or not married; heterosexual, gay, or lesbian; living together, separated or dating. Examples of applicable concepts to the issue of Domestic Violence include: Name-calling or putdowns, keeping a partner from contacting their family or friends, withholding money, stopping a partner from getting or keeping a job, actual or threatened physical harm, sexual assault, stalking, intimidation. Violence can be criminal through acts like physical assault (hitting, pushing and shoving, etc.), sexual abuse (forced sexual activity), and stalking. However emotional, psychological and financial abuse are not criminal behaviours, however they can lead to criminal violence.
