Should Men Be Victims Of Domestic Violence Against Men?

When one hears about someone being in a violent relationship they automatically think that it is male on female. But did one ever think about it being female on male? According to the Mayo Clinic, domestic violence is also known as “intimate partner violence (IPV)” (Mayo Clinic, 2014, para 1). IPV can include multiple people including current or former spouses, boyfriends or girlfriends, dating partners, or sexual partners (CDC, 2015, para. 1). Many people do not think men can be the victims of domestic violence because we only hear about female being the victims. Domestic violence may not be easy to recognize against men (Mayo Clinic, 2014, para. 2). Although the main point is domestic violence against men but it can also be the partners abusing each other. It is able to include both partners slapping or shoving each other when they are angry (Mayo Clinic, 2014, para. 3). Many of us do not know about domestic violence towards men because they don’t report it.

One major way to help the situation a little is to never retaliate to your abusive partner because it can possibly make things a lot worse than what they are (Robinson and Segal, 2016). Another way is to always get evidence of the abuse; always report it to the police and keep the reports that you gave to the police, keep all medical reports if there are any from going to the hospital because of the abuse (Robison and Segal, 2016). Always obtain advice from domestic violence programs because they could possibly help with getting full custody of your children or help you get away from your abuser (Robinson and Segal, 2016).
