Domestic violence can occur between two people in an intimate relationship. It is a serious and pernicious problem around the world that ruins lives, breaks up families, and makes a lasting impact on the victim. Families that are struggling with day to day income often show many signs of domestic violence. These families will rarely attract media coverage or have any attention. However, wealthy families often suffer the same consequences as the poor. In the article, “ Domestic Violence in Affluent Communities”, devised by Domestic Shelters, states that women with a higher income have many more opportunities to clear up their cases such as the ability to hire a high-end attorney to speed up the divorce process and afford to leave the abuser without aid from any shelter services. This may seem like an easy route, but in the news article titled, “Domestic Violence Among the Wealthy Hides Behind ‘Veil of Silence’, published by The Daily Beast, Dr. Susan Weitzman, psychotherapist and founder of the Weitzman Center, says, “ Higher-income people hide behind what I call a veil of silence and also believe it 's only happening to them. No one can hear you scream on a 3- acre lot” (Shapiro, February 2013 ). Also, the article states that abusers often hide the fact that their threats and serious complications were not an issue by being involved in a so called “honeymoon period” in which they try to apologize for all the wrongdoings and mistakes with the offer of gifts and their promise to change. If not accepted, the violence continues to be unrelentless which causes them to be in another horrendous obstacle of not admitting to the abuse
