Domestic Abuse: A Case Study

Treatment methods are the primary communication used when children have experienced domestic abuse. Different treatment methods can prevent adolescents from being anti-social with other kids, their parents, and anyone they have connections with. Usually most kids benefit from the treatment methods that are provided to them and others tend to stay in the same environment with little changes in their external behaviors and internal problems they are facing such as feeling unloved, depressed, and anxiety. The five treatment methods that are being used in these cases have a positive effect on the children’s external behavior and the internal problems they face alone. Gillies, Taylor, Gray, O’Brien, and D’Abrew developed therapies for adolescents who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after experiencing domestic violence (Litrownik et al. 2003). The first therapy is cognitive behavioral which focuses on the negative thinking after the trauma has occurred. There was four strategies that the researchers focused on and we can also relate these to the other treatment methods. They were child safety in the home and eliminating domestic violence, family support, and child support in all aspects. The specific therapy was called “Milieu” which was a treatment environment that enhanced the adolescents social skills and boosted their confidence. The authors were able to identify the adolescents individual needs that would have a positive effect on relieving their tension.
