The life of Jesus Christ is one that is both fascinating and a mystery. This one man’s life is very well documented, both in words and in art. There are many questions raised if this truly happened or was a myth created to give the public hope in times of need. I am not a religious person however, I do tend to gravitate towards religious art. Many of the religious paintings I have viewed have true emotion. Both paintings focus on iconic times within Jesus’ life, but Zampieri’s painting deals with the awe of his birth, and Munkacsy depicts the delight of the crowd during the trial of his execution.

There is an engraved design of the painting, labeled being as Domenichino’s, however the painting neglects details suggesting it was made from a preparatory drawing of Carracci that also was lacking details(Brigstocke, pg.57–59). Domenichino shows the loveliness of humankind through an emotional portrait of The Virgin Mary looking into the state of amazement at child Jesus. The compassion of this most simple and necessary bond between the mother and child is captured in the painting well. It is a feeling that parents can understand, and are able to touch many for the simple reason that everyone will play at least one of these significant roles throughout their lifetime. The simplicity of human nature at particular time period is contrasted with Mary’s robes and the witnesses that have come to adore Jesus. I believe it points toward spirituality, though one could interpret it as something else. This painting was designed for private adoration for the artist himself, it captured a beautiful moment, and so much

There is a feeling of connection between the three of them by the way they are all looking at each other and the cross. Although I could find no documentation on this, I feel there is also a symbol of the trinity in the three flowers to Mary's left side. The flowers are very prevalent and are connected to the figures in the painting by having the same color that is in the Virgin's shirt. It is also speculated that the water in the background symbolizes the baptism of Christ by John the Baptist. The fact that Mary is barefoot in the painting indicates that she is walking on holy ground.…

With the Renaissance we saw the comeback of the idea of Humanism, where they saw a crowning achievement in human progress, it encouraged the learning of human beings, emphasizing human potential to attain excellence. It promoted the study of literature, art, poetry, and the civilizations of classical Greece and Rome. Instead of the older world view, where art that didn’t depict religious stories or ideals- was seen as glorifying human achievement, which in turn is taking away from the glory of God. Some examples are, Cimabue, titled Virgin and Child Enthroned, c. 1280. The picture is clearly awkward, and not realistic in any sense.…

Resurrection is supposed to be universal, so every single person must face their “Last Judgement” with Christ, which is why the painting shows so much movement and activity between the people. This painting depicts all of mankind’s redemption period, and has universal appeal among the people and the world fills with hope to be redeemed by Christ. Throughout the painting, spectators can see that the people within the painting are holding on to one another either for comfort and support or out of anger trying to push the others away in order to get redemption from Christ. When looking at Christ in the painting, one can see that his two hands are facing two different directions, his right hand is facing up, as in a way pushing the people towards the top to Heaven, and his left hand is facing down pushing the people…

The Crucified Christ (1503-04) is a classical example of Italian Renaissance art. The piece illustrates, extremely effectively the Italian desire to make everything in which they paint beautiful, not matter how horrific the subject may be. Christ in this depiction, although, dead does not appear to have progressed into rigor mortis of any degree, Christ also appears to look peace in death in the Raphael painting, unlike in the Grunewald where distress is on Christ’s face is blatant. The way in which Christ is bleeding in Raphael’s piece is depicted with a degree of beauty, the bleeding is not messy, any blood coming from Christ, is delicately dripping into chalices held by angels on either side of Christ. This is a complete contrast with that of Grunewald’s depiction of the crucifixion, where blood is freely flowing down both his arms and legs.…
