Dolphus Raymond Hero

Decent Essays
Dolphus Raymond is not a heroic character because he isn’t honest. Dolphus Raymond is a white man who married an African American woman. Before he married the African American woman he was engaged to a white woman. On their wedding day she committed suicide. Jem explains Mr. Raymond’s situation to Dill and Scout. “They said it was because she found out about his colored woman, he reckoned he could keep her and get married too” (Lee 215). Dolphus had given a woman his hand in marriage while planning to marry someone else. This caused his white wife-to-be to kill herself. Heros are supposed to save lives, not cause deaths because of their lies. Dolphus could have told his bride that he couldn’t marry her, but instead he let her find out herself.
