Dolores Vasquez's Life After People

Improved Essays
Change, a single word that can strike a bit of fear in others. The question of the day is “Is fear good or bad?” there are many experiences with change and as humans we don’t like it. There are three pieces of literature and art that show change, they will be used to show how change is not as bad of a thing that people make it out to be.
In the article “Life After People” by Dolores Vasquez he depicts a world where all human life has disappeared. In this human-less world all animals (dogs, cats, ect.) have reverted back to their animalistic state from their tamed state. Dogs begin to travel in packs and hunt. Man made buildings collapse and power plants shut down. At first glance this doesn’t seem to be positive, but think about it.

First of all it is a painting so it is all from visual representation but the change shown is more of an average change, one we encounter more than not. The change shown is a change from day to a beautiful night, from what for many could be a chaotic day or an upsetting day or an average day to a calm night where they can rest then start a new the next day. The change here is very positive but the poem that came out of it was not as positive. Anne sexton had a response to the painting seems negative in a certain light, but what if it's viewed in a different light? when she says “this is how i want to die” (Anne 8) she could mean she is satisfied with how she has lived her life and how it has gone and if she died under the moon then she would be happy. The way these things are viewed have a massive effect on how the message is received Anne’s poem is happier than most think. The way people view these changes make the changes what they are, this is all about the light of which one looks at it. No matter how terrible a change seems a simple change of perspective can make a bad time into a good time. Change is a good thing but because humans are scared of change they view the worst of it and make it bad because of their own views. It’s never too late give a positive look into an upcoming change and enjoy life for what it has to

Change is a reoccurring concept in our lives. Weather we like it or not, we cannot stop it. The Giraffe by Mauro Senesi is a prime example that people do not always react the change the same ways. In the novel, ‘the boys’ were faced with having to be courageous, accepting and determined in order to save the giraffe. Similarly, these are qualities we use in our everyday lives.…

    Dolores Trevizo Summary

Dolores Trevizo uses the introductory chapter of “Rural Protest and the Making of Democracy in Mexico, 1968-2000,” to prove the non-violent grassroots social movements in the rural communities of Mexico were the catalyst behind the transition from a Neoliberal/semi- authoritarian structure to democracy . For many years it was popular belief that Mexico’s democratization was a product of powerful businessmen and international economic forces. Trevizo addresses this issue by stating the transition was a slow-moving process with a grassroots base that went under-studied and without credit for many years. It is now known that the majority of Mexican History was written with a bias from the elitists that painted the indigenous…

Change is one of the most feared and revered words in the English vocabulary. There are many people who embrace the alteration of their lifestyle in an effort to improve their economic or physical situation. Nevertheless, large portions of the population oppose change because of the fear of the unknown. The modification of one’s lifestyle can yield positive results by presenting new and exciting alternatives to what one is accustomed to but it can also have negative consequences. The citizens of North Dakota have discovered this recently as their community has undergone significant transformations brought about by the production of oil.…

Socially acceptable behaviors are what we call societal norms. A few examples of these are things like saying please and thank you, stopping at a red light, and brushing your teeth before bed. So essentially socially acceptable behaviors are something our society has deemed “appropriate” over time. Now, today things are different than they were back then, some leniency has been shown, but quite a few of societal norms are exactly the norms back then as well. In this essay, I will be talking about showing sexual content on TV and public display of affection.…

Change, a process many book characters undergo to develop the reader’s understanding of that character’s identity and personality. The characters in Chaim Potok’s book The Chosen certainly do not skip out on the process of change. Potok uses certain events and relationships to evolve and change his characters into a more definable person for the reader to understand. While many characters in the book transform for the better, some change for the worse. Although several characters do evolve, three of them outshine the rest.…

Anne Sexton gives us a glimpse into the most intimate parts of her life through her confessional poem, “The Double Image.” Since Sexton is confessing about her life after post-traumatic stress disorder, we would assume that she is always being completely honest; however, we see that some events of the poem are merely figments of her imagination. Just when we think we understand, she hits us with the brutal reality that is her life. Sexton uses rhymes and writes in child-like phrases to explain that her truth cannot be looked at outright; the reality of her life is too harsh to be written in plain words. By relaying these somber issues in a playful and sometimes humorous way, we get closer to the truth.…
