Harry alerts the teachers that Voldemort is planning an assault on the school, and they drive out Snape and summon the Order of the Phoenix to help defend the school to win time for Harry to locate the horcrux. Voldemort had set a guard in the Ravenclaw tower, corroborating Harry's belief that the horcrux is Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem, lost centuries ago. The Ravenclaw ghost's story further confirms this belief, and Harry remembers an old diadem in the Room of Requirement. Ron and Hermione destroy the cup with basilisk fangs from the Chamber of Secrets as Voldemort and his army besiege the castle. They find the diadem but are ambushed by Draco Malfoy and his friends Crabbe and Goyle.…

The Sacrifices of Harry Potter Sirius Black in the Order of the Phoenix once said “We’ve all got both light and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on, that's who we really are.” Often we can identify the moral values of a person through the sacrifices they make. Throughout J.K Rowling's Harry Potter series it is apparent how important sacrifice is throughout the progression of the novels. However, one of the most notable sacrifices happens before the books even begin.…

I like how you mentioned that Hermione's problem with Rita is more than an annoyance. Hermione has a strong connection with text and literature, and I think the intelligence she gains from reading is a source of her confidence. Rita misuses text to manipulate people. I see how that would personally affect Hermione because literature has helped her in several aspects, but Rita is using it to degrade people and spread lies. It definitely helps further explain why Hermione was upset with Rita and I am glad you pointed that…

    Peeved Hermione Granger

If there was one thing that peeved Hermione Granger the most it was not understanding things. That was what she did: she understood the minutia of complex concepts, spells, and potions, picked up on the undercurrents of context, connotation, and expressions, and, last but not least, prided herself on having learned, in detail, the history and guiding principles of both the Muggle and the Wizarding Worlds. In their years at Hogwarts, it was that knowledge that allowed her to assess situations and make informed choices, to ponder factors and devise the best course of action possible. Provided, that is, that the other two-thirds of the Golden Trio didn't charge—like stampeding Hippogriffs—in the opposite direction.…

The tension between the past and present is one of the key central tropes that is continually addressed in the novels ‘Dracula’, written by Bram Stoker, and ‘Lady Audley’s Secret’, written by Mary Elizabeth Braddon. While gothic novels such as ‘Dracula’ and sensation fiction based on gothic tropes like ‘Lady Audley’s Secret’ are both presented in a modern society, the plot, underlying symbolism, and settings allows the past and present to persist as a central trope of the gothic. In the early stages of the gothic, the genre ultimately provided a representation for domestic fears and anxieties amongst the cultural shifts within society. The tension between the past and the present existed within gothic novels as a way of expressing concerns over modernity and the rapidly changing culture. Most importantly, the tension between the past and present consistently reappears through the plot, setting and representations of characters because of the ever-present change in society.…
