Dolores was both an activist and labor leader. She created the Agricultural Workers Association (AWA). In 1955 she and a friend, Frank Ross started the Stockton chapter of the Community Services Organization (CSO). In this they worked to end segregation, discrimination and police brutality and improve social and economic conditions of farm workers. She co-founded United Farm Workers (UFW), stepping down in 1999.
