Doing Nothing Research Paper

How many times in your life have you been sitting down under a tree doing nothing but thinking, bored out of your mind? How many times has that led to great ideas that you never would have thought of if at that moment you were stuck in the busyness and toil of life? Some of the best things in life can happen when doing what most would call nothing (think about Isaac Newton). Inactivity serves a purpose in life because it promotes creative thinking, inspires you to do new things, and gives you rest from the busyness of life. First of all, inactivity promotes creative thinking. Inspiration by definition is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. How will you be inspired to do something creative if you are already always doing something uninspiring, formatted, and uncreative? There is no room for it! It is literally impossible for the human brain. Yet, while doing nothing, there is nothing to push that inspiration out of the way. We cannot let ourselves become dull, working, uninspired zombies, though that is what we are becoming. We need to look back at the past examples of our ancestors. The greatest example is the Renaissance. For a long time after the fall of the Roman Empire, everyone in Europe was caught up in the same boringness and busyness of their lives. All of a sudden, in about 1300 ideas, art, and culture started popping up out of seemingly nowhere. Those who had been ridiculed for doing nothing and always contemplating became the center of attention. Their ideas were now able to be expressed. This led to the emergence of men we all know well including Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, William Shakespeare, and Desiderius Erasmus.
