Doing A Vocab Assignment In School

Decent Essays
On one pedestrian Friday, our English teacher was out for the day and required us to do a vocab assignment. Once we got to the room where the backup study hall was being held, we all found our seats and some sat with people from other classes. We all opened up our laptops and looked at the post of Schoology. The assignment was simple: write a short story using most our vocab words. There was additional restrictions, including that you must not deviate from a single plot line. After reading the assignment, I began to work as it obfuscated some of the other students in my class. Because the assignment was ambiguous and allowed us to write our own stories, I decided that the optimum topic was to write about the process of writing the assignment.

It was the year of 2014 going into 2015 and I was an eighth grader. This was my second year attending Bennett Academy charter school. My English language arts teacher, Ms. Walton, had told to my classmates and me that in mid-November we will begin to start our huge assignment. That assignment was to be completed before the graduation date of May 21st, 2015. Ms. Walton told us that we need to have at least fifty pages and no less.…

Class of 2022, it has been a wonderful three quarters. Remember at the beginning of the year, when we all had the Big Bear trip? Then, everyone was “stiff,” but now, we’re all settled into our daily middle school routine, and many events have passed already. Period 5 English, can you recall us realizing that everyone in The Giver was on drugs? Well, our class was pretty chaotic, and Ms. Gershenhorn had to bribe us to be quiet with the possibility of her doing the dab.…

Observation Report: Writing Assignment The writing assignment that I observed was a literary analysis that describes the theme of “The Cask of Amontillado” through his display of the main character’s motives. The students were instructed to provide specific examples from the text, as well as clear reasoning that explains and connects their evidence to their response. The day that I was there to observe the class the mentor teacher was finishing the unit by having the students write a five paragraph essay using a worksheet packet that they had been working on for the past several days.…

John Wegener Ms. Winona Landis English 111-FG 3 October 2014 Inquiry II Writer’s Letter My goal for this paper was to show that this poster’s message was different than what I thought Student Health should be saying. I picked apart logos, pathos, and ethos and gave them their own separate sections of the paper, to cut down on repetition. Before I analyzed at all, though, I established a clear base to get on the same page as the reader.…

Even though it does not feel as though I have improved much, I know that the grades on my essays say differently. After looking over my essays, I noticed that I have become better with using evidence to support my papers. This, to me, is my best accomplishment. I have also improved on my word choice, organization, and how I use my quotes. If you were to compare the first paper I wrote to the last paper I wrote, I feel as though it would be obvious on how much my organization has improved.…

Malcolm X is a famous civil rights activist and an Islamic Nation leader. He was a great controversial speaker and was very motivational to those who heard his speeches. He also was possessed by a vision for change which to Campbell (2002) is a characteristic for a great leader. Although, he past away in 1965, it is relevant to know and study about his speeches and actions because he verbally made a change through his speeches for equality for African Americans. Still up to this day we are facing inequality discrimination for different races.…

All Semester, Mr. Gribleton had assigned the class 3 or 4 feet of essay the weekend of the much anticipated Hogsmede trips. They were sick of it, and had penned a letter telling him that it was time to change his methods. Throughout the past few weeks of Studies in English Education, the main aspect that has been addressed is the term ‘multiliteracies.’ From completing this portfolio and attending each of the workshops, I have learned that to become a text producer I need to be involved with the variety of functions in language and literacy. Hill (2012) states that ‘to be multiliterate means to be literate in print-based and new communication technologies’ (p. 361). Such technologies include ‘electronic literacies, technoliteracies, digital literacies, visual literacies and print-based literacies’ (Hill 2012, p. 361).…
